CMYK Poster Show 2019

We’re coming up on one of our most favorite events of the year – the CMYK Poster Show! This event has been a fun and smashing success since its introduction 5 years ago.  Yeah, we’re on our 5th Annual CMYK Poster Show and we’re about to start accepting artist registrations.

For those of you who are new to the show, CMYK is one of AAFCM’s most competitive events on the programming line-up. It’s a design competition and silent auction for local professionals and students. We chose the name CMYK because it’s an obvious nod to design, yet flexible enough to change the format as trends come and go. So if coaster design is all the rage three years from now, we just might host a coaster design competition. You get the point.

Back due to popular demand, our format is posters once again. Back also by popular demand (will breweries ever be off-trend? We didn’t think so…) we’ll be hosting our event at the thriving Pantown Brewing Company in St. Cloud. 

Have we mentioned this is a thematic design competition? Yeah I guess that’s an important tid-bit. So without further ado, let me introduce to you our 2019 CMYK Poster show Theme: TOTALLY 90’s. Because damned if mom jeans, disposable cameras, scrunchies, bib overalls, and Tamagotchi’s aren’t making a comeback!

So how should you approach this theme? 

Well that’s the beauty of this competition, you can approach it however you darned well please. What inspires you? What tells the world a little more about who you are? What makes you say, “oh, that’s totally from the 90’s”? The idea here is that you’re designing a unique poster with your favorite 90’s moment or trend and sharing it with the world, er, at least some local beer and poster enthusiasts. So use your favorite font, textures, colors, etc to share a little piece of you. Make it pretty, make it clever, make it whatever you will – just make it and join us at the 5th annual CMYK Poster Design Competition. Booyah!

DO I NEED TO BE A DESIGNER TO PARTICIPATE?

Nope! But you do need to know how to get whatever you create into a digital poster format using the specifications that you can download below.

HOW IT WORKS:

Using their medium choice, artists will follow the specifications outlined in the Call for Designers Form to create a 90’s-themed poster. All posters will be put on display at the event and available for all event attendees to purchase via silent auction. Half of all silent auction proceeds go to Central MN’s advertising students, so help us keep the creative juices of the future flowing.

COST: FREE – Bring your friends!

CMYK is open to the public! Whether you’re an artist, a beer drinker, or you just totally love the 90’s, this is an event you don’t want to miss. The event will feature food and beer for purchase.

THE FINE PRINT:

Cost to submit a poster for auction is $15 to cover printing costs. 1 extra poster will be available for each artist at a cost of $10 (paid at time of registration).

Competition is limited to the first 40 designers.

Competition is limited to 1 poster per designer.

Final artwork files must be uploaded via the upload link by Friday, October 18th @ 11:59 pm.

NOTE: This is a public event; therefore, all posters will be subject to screening before print. AAFCM reserves the right to reject (without refund) any posters deemed offensive, inappropriate or vulgar.
